Comic Book Progress

Code Development Assets Story Journal 1

Well,

It's been a few months since my last post, but I have been very busy. As you can see, I've made some progress on the comic. It's still early days, but I've overcome most of the hurdles I've faced in terms of getting 3d assets to load properly the way I want. There is still a lot that I want to do, but this has been a very challenging and also very rewarding stretch.

One thing that is extremely gratifying is to have a vehicle where I can tell stories in a way that draws upon a wide variety of skills. Over the last few years I've become a bit of a generalist, doing mostly art, but also modeling, rigging, texturing and even music. The one thing that kind of eluded me was the most important component of game development. Programming. So finally this year, I've found the opportunity to dig way deeper in that area and I've familiarized myself with the process of doing C++ in Unreal and also using a bit php and javascript to do this comic. It's been unpredictable and challenging, but it's been a blast. I want to keep digging deeper into code to the point where it's a strength. So any kind of math, programming and computer science topics are in my crosshairs. Also, working on this comic will give me a chance to keep up with the other skills as well. The goal is to continue making interactive art and keep pushing forward with that and treat it as my medium.

Right now the comic is rough around the edges, but hopefully, still pretty interesting. I have a lot planned for it. But I am open to any feedback you have. It's a stage where I can easily change most things about it, so feel free to share your thoughts. Either through comments or through our contact form.

The great thing about this is that development is pretty front loaded and the biggest hurdle has been overcome, so now that some of the main assets are done and I know the hoops that need to be jumped through in order to prepare new ones, I'm optimistic that we'll be able to really push forward and make this a lot cooler.

Take care everyone!

-Gavin
